In Search of Earthtongues
As the forecast looked good today, I texted my fellow fungi enthusiast Brian to see if he fancied a trip out to one of our favourite sites to look for Earthtongues - a late-fruiting grassland species. We did find one small group in the area where we expected to find them (see extra), but we found quite a few other fungi on the grassland and in the woodland. Much of the big sexy stuff has now fallen victim to frost damage, but other less obvious stuff starts to appear late in the season, such as the Purple Jellydisc in the photo. One of the things which made it such an enjoyable outing was the wonderful Autumn light and the glorious colours of the natural world.
