Roger, Amy and I went to lunch to talk about smashing the patriarchy and how to pronounce various meats in a Liverpudlian accent (see blip title). Amy is from Liverpool and has feminist tendencies, hence the subject matter.
We were talking and jesting about smashing the patriarchy as Amy had written it in an email about equal pay to colleagues the previous day. I wondered whether by making the issue lighthearted I was reinforcing male behaviour and not following feminist values, or whether bringing these issues to the table in an accessible way helps to keep them on the agenda. I worried that if the old saying 'ever a true word spoken in jest' has any truth, I could be revealing deeply buried male prejudice that I didn't realise I had, or, alternatively that I just needed to join my friends in laughing about the ridiculousness of the world...
