Arctic Wolf

Dancing with wolves.  

Today at the UK Wolf Conservation Trust near Reading I was really happy, no really happy as I am the biggest sceptic ever at keeping caged animals but this was truly amazing. The areas in which they were kept were huge landscaped enclosures being the only place in the UK that one can see Arctic, European and North American wolves in one location. A unique opportunity to learn about the true nature of wolves after centuries of demonising and persecution, dispelling myths and legends of old.

' All the better to see you with my dear!'

I think it's their jaw that really impressed me - the sheer power  as it crunches up bone - a bite pressure of 1,500 pounds per square inch in contrast to a German Shepherd which is just 750 and we humans who just manage 300 pounds. It's been equated to a fully loaded tractor trailer dropping 3 stories of a building onto a bite target. Impressive - oh yes!
