Onkaparinga wetlands

Today we were thanked as volunteers for parks by the local government department. It is an annual event of food, awards and speeches leading up to Xmas. It is the Natural Resources Management Board (NRM) that hosts these series of events across the local region.

This year we chose to go to an area we had not visited before in the  south of Adelaide known as the Onkaparinga Wetlands.  The Onkaparinga river is probably the largest river in the Adelaide area.  We were given a tour through a restricted area not usually open to the public, and this is my view of a small part of the wetland.

What is interesting is that it is tucked away in the centre of coastal suburbia. The reason this small area is fenced off with a very special high fence is to keep out foxes, rabbits, and feral cats and dogs. Maybe it will be made open to the public with a ranger of volunteer on the gate, say one Sunday a month. I hope this may happen in the future.
