The Battle of Prestonpans tapestry
Today my friend Chris and I went in search of more Phoebe Anna Traquair murals, after seeing the Mansfield Traquair Centre yesterday. However, we were thwarted - the murals at St Mary's Music School were out of bounds becaues of a recording which was taking place. However, we went inside the Cathedral and found the Prestonpans Tapestry which was being exhibited there. This celebrates the journey 25 year old Bonnie Prince Charlie made from France then through the Scottish Highlands to victory at Prestonpans (a few miles to the east of Edinburgh) in 1745.
Stylistically it has a lot in common with the Bayeux Tapestry - but this tapestry was made in 2009 - 2010. It was stitched by more than 200 volunteers in 104 panels, after designs by Andrew Crummy. Here's a link to the Prestonpans Tapestry website.
