Remembrance

Oswestry always has a large parade through the town for Remembrance Sunday as it was an army town in the wars. As well as dignitaries there is a local brass band, veterans, scouts, guides, cadets etc. with laying of wreaths at the Memorial Gates of the Park then a service in the church.

I usually go to this. I used to represent my mother as her brother was killed when his Lancaster crashed 5th November 1944 on return from Germany. She could never go to any remembrance event herself as her loss remained so raw.

I was unable to make it this year as I'm deputy organist at chapel and the usual lady was ill so I was required there. While looking for music to play before the service and I noticed that one of the hymns in the book was to the tune of The Dambusters March, I just had to play it!! Quite appropriate as Mum's brother was in the decoy operation to draw fire away from the famous Dambusters planes.
