Lieutenant Whiteman MC
For Remembrance Sunday another image from the Reeve's lightbox exhibition Stories seen through a glass plate: 2016 Lewes Remembers. Before he embarked for France Lieutenant Whiteman had his photograph taken at the local studio in Lewes. I thought this one was particularly poignant. The photograph is accompanied by his handwritten letter from France, dated 27th December, asking Benjamin Reeves to let him know how much he owes for the photographs. It ends "Rain, mud and shells daily. Wishing you compliments of the season."
