What was lost

Was found today.

With some information from Ancestry, my Mum and I found the unmarked grave of my great-grandad (Mum's maternal grandfather), who, sadly, neither of us ever met as he passed away in 1944.

We also found the grave of two of his children (who would have been Mum's uncles) - buried with other family members. Alfie, born and died in January 1927 and George, born 1925 and died in 1928.

It was worth the effort, to figure out how the plots were organised (and to find out that the plot numbers are in the back of the headstones), to then be able to go and visit my Great Aunt and tell her that we found her father's burial site. She was so happy, having never known where he had been laid to rest.

So, on Remembrance Sunday, we had our own act of remembrance and some conversations about the family members.
