The Hand & Sceptre

Lunched in this pub today.   There has been a Hand & Sceptre Inn here for at least 150 years but can't find any precise history.  When we moved here 20 years ago the pub was a beefeater type establishment. It changed hands about 4 years ago and the name changed; I now realise, back to its original name.  An 1840 trade directory has a Joseph Tibbs in the Hand and Septer Hotel.    Its within walking distance which means I was able to have a glass or two of wine. I  hope that walking to and from the pub makes up for missing aqua aerobics today
