Shopping w/ the boys

I was in one of my favorite boutique stores trying on dresses, trying to direct two of my boys to things that might amuse them. While I was changing they were playing "I spy" and found this bejeweled, royal-looking canine statue. Nick started singing "Hard Days Night" by the Beatles because of the line"working like a dog."
We laughed because of the tasks we had completed in this fast-paced week: fall cleaning (:0), studying, legal work). We were exhausted and happy to do some back-to school tasks.

We've all heard the expression "as loyal as a dog." My affection for the animals wasn't immediate. As a child, my friend Bryan's Alaskan husky bit my thigh open. The next year was spent in hiding until eventually my father forced me to befriend and Irish Setter, Brandy. One of the best dogs I ever knew. He carried his own leash while on walks, leapt remarkably high to catch his frisbee, and was extremely protective. So this animal that once petrified me became a source of security and protection. I adored him and overcame my only major fear.

Findlay and Lily have given us so many wonderful memories and added to overall family life. There's not a more honorable comparison. But people are people, dogs are dogs. And this is a fantastic piece of art.
