Hungerford
We left home just after midday to travel to a Manor House near Southampton where we are on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal for three nights.
On the way, we stopped in Hungerford. We haven't been here since 1999 when we stayed at Littlecote Manor just outside the town.
It's a lovely quaint town near Newbury, Berkshire, with the Kennet & Avon canal running through it. It is very well known for the Hungerford Macacre - a series of random shootings on 19 August 1987, when Michael Robert Ryan, an unemployed part-time antique dealer and handyman, fatally shot 16 people, before committing suicide. It was very big news at the time and shocked the nation.
After a walk around the town we had a short stroll along the canal where I took this photo under the town bridge looking along the canal.
