Proclamation of the Republic

Today is a national holiday here. In 1889, the Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca and other military men seized the power of the emperor Dom Pedro II, transforming the country from a monarchy into a federative republic.
We then went for a bike ride and I took this photo of the Brazilian Flag - the tallest of the world, according to The Guinness Book of Records.
