Putting heart into the city?

I don't like being negative but I was disappointed by the Aberdeen post box that has been painted gold in honour of Kath Grainger's fabulous achievement of winning an Olympic rowing gold after three successive near misses.

I had been keen to see our new landmark, especially after reading about this iconic way of celebrating Team GB's success at London 2012 and having seen my brother's blip of the Cheltenham version.

Sadly, Aberdeen's golden pillar box is tucked away in a rather unprepossessing corner of the large, but underpopulated, pedestrianised area at the Castlegate. As you can see from the photograph, even the gulls appear to have turned their backs on this monument of civic pride!
