The Twa Corbies.
As I was walking all alane
I heard twa Corbies making a mane
The yin tae the other said
Where shall we gang and dine the day?
In ahint yon auld fail dyke
I wot there lies a new slain knight
And naebody kens that he lies there
But his hawk, his hound and his lady fair.
An old traditional rhyme claimed by Scotland and England under different names, but I like to think it is an example of the "Auld Alliance" - the special relationship between Scotland and France, with words in the Scots dialect with French roots.
The Corbies were waiting for me to retire into the house after filling up the bird feeders, not a betrayed unloved warrior decomposing in my garden.
