George Square

In the summer term the George Square gardens were alive with students trying to enjoy the outdoors and to study for finals at the same time.  This would have been easier in the Library.     The grass was strewn with others who had given up the pretence of study, and with George Watson's Ladies College sixth formers, whose decorative presence was finally removed after my time when the school united with the Boys in 1974 and moved to Colinton Road.

Behind is the David Hume Tower where I encountered my first university tutorial in Moral Philosophy with a particularly arrogant and unfriendly tutor.

In the Extra - this is the New University Library - or at least it was almost new when I first matriculated in 1966!
