Egyptian Geese: gosling becomes separated!

I've back blipped an HDR shot of the NatHist for yesterday.
This gosling looks even more adorable up close.

Interesting family behaviour:
The goslings were in a cuddle-pile this morning on long grasses right on the edge of the pond; one got up to reposition itself in the pile, but knocked this one (which was stretching its legs and wings out on the edge) into the water (he he - "Oops"?). It had a drink (cute, but was it just trying to make the whole thing look intentional?), but then couldn't get out; it could see its siblings up on the edge, but they were on an edge of the pond with a step up out of the water, so the gosling couldn't just scramble out to rejoin its siblings. It was peeping softly (and didn't seem too fussed); the mother could hear it but couldn't see it, so started honking in response, and wandered along the edge of the pond until she reached a bit with an shallower edge. All the goslings followed (presumably they all hear that form of honking as "follow me"), but she only stopped honking once the lost one had swum along and scrambled out to rejoin the group.

I know that the parents can't count, but it was interesting to see how the gosling and mother communicated and resolved the unintentional separation.
Here is the reunion.

I took this picture when the gosling was drinking and noticed me on the edge slightly further along from its family (the gosling, its family, and I were arranged in an equilateral triangle...).
