A Monkey's Tale

Cheddar Gorge

Today we took our leave of Somerset & Devon. Louise & her friend left on their holiday to Ibiza early this morn so we had said our goodbye's the night before, but Steve was a more than adequate host this morn & had let us have our lie in.

On Steve's advice we made our way to the Cheddar Gorge, with the thinking that if the rain continued, we could see everything we needed from the comfort of the car. Brilliant! We stopped for lunch at the King Alfred (well I had lunch as Jen's on a strictly Protein diet this week as part of the Dukan Diet. The chip's were amazing!) in a little place called Burrowbridge. Burrow Mump sits in the middle of the village & from the foot of the hill we could see the ruined church sat on top, very picturesque. We then made our way through Wells, Glasto & finally to the Cheddar Gorge. The rain had long stopped by now & it had become a sunny day, so Jen was kind enough to stop at random spots so I could take a few snaps. It's incredibly high & Steve was right when he said it was like a mini alps. There was even some goats trying to scale across the pretty treacherous cliff faces. There were plenty of tourists checking out the caves too & if we'd had more time we'd have liked to do the same.

The rest of the journey was motorway after motorway & we did eventually make it home after some quite horrendous traffic in places. Very nice few days, shame we couldn't have stayed for longer.
