Doña Joana-Rabo-do-Peixe

The photo is of the painted door alongside one of the most unusual little bars in Funchal old town. It's called the Tasca Literaria - plus the long name.

The lady in the title was a prostitute who worked from three doors down from the bar in which I was sitting when I took this photo. The stories of Doña Joana-Rabo-de-Peixe were written by a Madeiran Joao Carlos Abreu.

I don't confess to literary or historical leanings this morning. It was hot and sultry and the lovely young waiter offered a beer. Half a litre, an hour and a half and a snack later, I went on my way back to the pool. (hard life)
