Tree Worker
A very tall Norway Maple is being taken cut down on our our street (this is a capture from beside our house). The tree person (arborist) told me that it is a non-indigenous (i.e. invasive) species, which actually inhibits the growth of plants around it. I have numerous shots of him working high on the bare trunk--more dramatic, but in fact less interesting than this one of him working lower down.
This has been a sad week--due not only to developments in Washington, but also to the death of Gwen Ifill* on Monday, at 61. She was a path-breaking journalist, who in 1999 became the host and executive director of Washington Week on the Public Broadcasting System (PBS)--the first Afro-American in such a role on a national public affairs program on U.S. television. Her radiant and charismatic personality won over everyone. Tonight's Friday program was devoted entirely to another moving tribute. My extra is Marylee's and my tribute (admittedly captured from my laptop). *Gwen's name rhymes with Eiffel Tower (not inappropriately).
