The Carter And His Horse

Before the Clyde was dredged in Glasgow a couple of hundred years ago Irvine was the main port on the river. Boats unloaded their cargo on to the backs of the Clydesdale horses. Carter and horse would then walk together for miles and miles over dirt tracks delivering their goods as far as Glasgow.
