dinner with the neighbours

Our neighbours came for dinner tonight. Annie and I spent the afternoon making gratin dauphinois - she showed me how to make it properly and it's very easy. We made two huge dishes full. The plan was to have two roast chickens with the gratin but when I opened them up, they were both off! In date but off - you know that horrible smell of chicken that's past its best?! GROSS! Daniel went to our local little shop and bought sausages. Not quite the dinner we wanted, but he saved the day :) We were 9 in total and there was still LOADS left. Why is it you always make too much?
