Warm and dry at last!
Today was a case of All’s well that ends well – and much that went wrong in between. Wet and windy all day and the whole idea of our friends driving up the hill in the rain and the dark seemed crazy, but HH was having computer trouble and in the end they got away before we did and were well away before we even left Copa. Still, the traffic and the weather weren't as bad as we expected and as our friends stopped for a snack at the bottom of the Serra, it seemed we might almost catch up with them.
HOWever, their GPS took them sailing past all the normal routes to the town, to the far end of the road that comes out by our house –25 or so kilometers away over dirt roads, which would be impassable after all this rain. By the time we guessed from their messages where they must be, they had lost the phone signal and we had no way of putting them back on track. By now it was dark, and raining again. We went home, put dinner into the oven and hoped for the best. Luckily, or in answer to their prayers, as they would believe, as religious people, a family dropped someone off at the one isolated house they had stopped at to ask directions, and then guided them all the way back to the main road. The journey took them four hours, but they eventually arrived, safe and sound, hungry and thirsty, and we were all able to sit down to dinner.
With the two couples sleeping in the downstairs bedrooms, Luke opted for cushions and a sleeping bag in front of the fire, so here he is, Just settling in. The photos was actually taken at 12.40 a.m., so I doctored the date as I think it illustrates the day –looks a bit foggy too, but can't expect everything to come out right.
