Out with the birds
I cycled to Somerset House this evening to see Hitchcock's "The Birds" projected onto the big screen in the courtyard. It was perfect weather - dry and warm enough for short sleeves. I was pleased that there was space to lock the bicycle in the courtyard - a big bonus. One minus was that, although we'd brought cushions, it wasn't comfortable to sit for such a long time on the floor. The courtyard was busy so there wasn't much space to stretch out. However, that's a minor quibble.
Before the film began, we were treated to an audience with Tippi Hedren, the lead actress in the film. She seemed quite excited about seeing the film, too. Luckily, none of the birds around Somerset House joined in the evil action of their screen cousins and we left the showing unharmed. The film has some quite hilarious parts that would have been scary back in the day. I enjoyed the evening and we had a good blether afterwards about various reasons for certain characterizations and storylines. We all thought it best that certain elements were left unsolved - better left to the imagination.
The cycle home was fast(er than the nightbus) and uneventful. I love cycling at night in the city.
