Pilgrimage to Dysart
Pam, an Australian friend of my Welsh relatives, had always wanted to visit the birthplace of one of her ancestors, John McDouall Stuart ( 1815-1856) the celebrated Scottish explorer who became the first man to map Australia.
So today Pam visited Dysart, his birthplace, now a suburb of Kirkcaldy on the Fife coast.
John McDouall Stuart, the youngest of nine children, trained as civil engineer and emigrated to Australia at 23 years of age.
Despite his slight built -9 stone and 168cm-he went on to become the country's most famous inland explorer mapping the country from north to south.
His epic expeditions are well documented.
Unfortunately the house in Dysart had been subjected to a flood but the owner let her in and showed her a framed photograph of John McDouall Stuart.
So Pam took a picture of it on her camera a memento of her visit to the birthplace of one of Australia's most famous explorers and a great, great, great uncle of hers.
Thank you all for your good wishes on my first blip birthday. Much appreciated.
