Heritage Photo
I bought this fascinating old photo at the old Talbot railway station recently (where incidentally there was a notice warning people not to feed the trains!).
It's not of that area, but of a butcher shop in Bairnsdale, a country town in Victoria (Australia) in the Gippsland district. There is a 1896 label on it. I photographed it today (hope that is not outside the Blip protocols).
Although it is probably not a great photo even for those times, there is something very charming about it. I look at it a lot and wonder about the people in it. The young guys have army uniform tops on, although if the date is correct it was well befor the 1st world war.
In our over-refrigerated age, the 'Meat kept in ice-chamber' is quite amusing, and a reminder.
I noticed in a quick search that there are still people of that name in Bairnsdale and surrounds.
