Compounded

As it's not wise to take a phone or camera out of your pocket when on the streets of Juba, it does somewhat limit photo-taking opportunities to the confines of the compound. However even barbed wire perimeter walls are softened by tropical vegetation and a hot blue sky.

Today I've had flashbacks to one of my first jobs running expeditions and community development projects in southern Africa. Dashing about African cities trying to complete errands, having to make five visits to a government office for a NGO renewal form before the person you need deigns to turn up (and still doesn't), rushing through chaotic markets alive with brightly coloured clothes, shaking about a million hands, grabbing cups of sugary tea on the street between meetings, trying to procure car batteries and printer ink without a clue as to where you might find them, and being pelted by leaves and insects while on your laptop after dark.

PS bananablip I remain forever sad that I didn't cave to your blip demands back in 2007-08 as some of the Africa pics would have been excellent :)
