Fickle weather...

The day started off dreich and misty. However by 11 am the sun came out quite nicely so we decided to go for a walk from Whitby, south a few miles along the Cleveland Way (coastal path) then inland to pick up the old railway line for our return. As soon as we got up to the Abbey however the rainclouds started to reassemble as you can see, so we thought we may be in for a drenching. On the plus side the conditions provided rather interesting light for this photo, and in fact we really enjoyed the fab views from the path along the cliffs. Happily it remained pretty dry for us all the way to our planned lunchstop at the Hare & Hounds at High Hawsker where we discovered that their "light" dishes were rather inaccurately named! At least this excellent refuelling meant that we had full stomachs and plenty of energy to brave the rain which was now falling quite heavily, and we had cagoules & overtrousers so we didn't get too wet on the return journey.

My Editor teased me as I made my usual error of "misunderestimating"  (as GW Bush would say) the total distance of the route. I'd guessed about 6 miles but it ended up being a little over 10. She reckons I make a habit of such errors and, to be honest, she's right. Still, best to be an optimist :-)

(PS If you've time, the photo looks best when viewed large.)
