U-Bahn München: 82/100 Scheidplatz

Munich Underground: 82/100 Scheidplatz

After yesterday's visit to Rotkreuzplatz station, we go straight ahead in my strictly alphabetical Munich underground series to Scheidplatz underground station. It was opened in May 1972 as part of the orange U3 line together with the stations at Bonner Platz, Petuelring, and Olympiazentrum, just in time for the 1972 Olympic Summer Games.

The station was opened with four tracks and two island paltforms as it was intended to be an interchange station. However, the red U2 line - the line to eventually cross the U3 at Scheidplatz - did not reach the station until 1980; therefore only the outer tracks were used during those 9 years.

Like the other stations of the Olympic entension, the signature colour is orange and the walls are desigend with exposed concrete. The design is generally very similar among these stations; Olympiazentrum could basically be the twin of Scheidplatz.

Today the station was very quiet, as parts of the U3 tunnels and tracks are being renovated right now and therefore are closed completely for a few month.

Today was also the first time that the U-Bahnwache (Munich's underground security) asked me to show my photographing permit for the station, and subsequently asked me to leave, as I am obviously not in possession of such a thing. To be fair, they were very nice and polite while kicking me out. It was probably a good thing they didn't know that I've been to 81 other stations without any permit during the last 24 months...
