Whites Rock
After the monthly meeting 30 of the walking group went to walk from a property in Ngatimoti up behind the school to White's Rock. We were told it would be about 30 minutes. Nobody had walked it. The local property owner gave the leader directions but somehow they weren't followed. We marched through a paddock with grass up to our waists. Then we came to a bull paddock with 3 in it. Hmmm, We went across country and started up through some bush on a path that was quite steep and very narrow.
After an hour they decided we better sit on the side of a bank and have lunch. Two opted to stay there. Three more (including me) dropped out after another 20 minutes and the rest finally found the rock after another 10 minutes.
Then a woman twisted her ankle and it needed strapping. By then someone had found the correct route and it was quite a pleasant walk down for the rest of us. Some lovely oak forest, pine forest but an awful lot of hawthorn and old mans beard too.
So our half hour turned into two hours. I was so pleased I had bought walking sticks. They made such a difference. I think my sore parts tomorrow might be my wrists and hands from gripping them.
Not too many opportunities for photos and it was very hazy and overcast but this one shows some of the group wending their way along the path.
