Martello Tower Number28

Martello Tower Number 28, Built in Rye Harbour in 1809 during the Napoleonic Wars. There was a company of dragoons stationed here in case of invasion. The tower had a moat and a walkway that could be dragged up - the line of towers was designed to make any advance on London as tricky and as costly as possible.
