Norn

Another freezing morning and another stunning walk down the track. Fire lit, chickens & cat fed, back to work. Board meeting. Manage to get chorizo stew into slow cooker for the schoolies this evening.

After lunch Johnny arrives to cut the hedge. It'll be dark soon, but he'll get started anyway. I'm off to Edinburgh to talk to Jill about bookkeeping and go out with the IF5.

We go to Norn, a posh restaurant in Leith. The food is small, complex piles on large plates. The decor is minimal, almost Scandinavian, but slightly cold & unwelcoming. The lighting is bright. The music is old school - Neil Young, Stone Roses, Velvet Underground.

There is a menu, but the waiter suggests not looking at it - the surprise of each course is important. The choice is simple: 4 courses or 7 courses.

We choose the 4 course. I kick myself for having to drive, while the others choose to get a glass of wine with each course. The food is really interesting. The dessert is especially good - sea buckthorn, Douglas Fir meringue, shortbread, ice cream, chocolate mousse.

When the bill comes, I'm relieved I didn't have the wine ;)
