Carew Castle

We ventured into South Pembrokeshire today and with the sunshine beating down I took a detour and visited  Carew Castle. Site of an ancient fortress the current Carew is based on a Norman stone fortress which was embellished during the Elizabethan period before being allowed to fall into disrepair. In recent times CADW have undertaken some restoration and the site is now managed by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Open to the public the castle has an intriguing early history and played an important part in the political machinations of that period. The lake in the picture is in fact a mill pond which drives the Carew tidal mill at its head.
