Black Flyday

The entomologists who I follow on Twitter have dubbed today #BlackFlyDay. They're referring to a particular sort of black fly. In previous years I've posted insects but the weather was so beautiful this morning it made me want to shoot planes.

I went to North Weald and sat outside the 1940s Squadron cafe in the sunshine with a large latte. Not that much activity in the air. My pic is of a Piper Cadet taking off.

As I was about to leave the airfield I noticed a Car Limits event underway. My daughter and I and some of our car club mates have attended these driver training days - they're great fun and comprise the following amongst other things. I quote from the CL website. "Smooth acceleration, cornering, balancing the car on the throttle, trailing throttle, trailing brake, left foot braking, what it feels like to experience understeer, oversteer and how to feel them and correct them, gear changing, heel and toe, skid control, spin avoidance and even how to control the rotation of your car and get it back inline from 90 degrees....
....to name but a few, along with some of the more entertaining, rather than educational manoeuvres."

I loved watching the young guys putting their cars through their paces and pushing themselves to do their best. I had a big grin on my face as they burnt rubber and filled the air with the smell of hot brakes. It has really given me a fillip. I don't do enough of stuff like this these days. :(
