Feet resting on a ........Dragon!!!

I love the marble effigies you find in churches, and Winchester Cathedral was no exception, with many really intricately carved offerings to explore. I loved this one especially as the feet were resting on a little dog, but on closer inspection I realized it was a small dragon! Who rests their feet on a dragon? Sadly I am unable to tell you the answer as it was all written in Latin :-(
