Whilst some experimentation with a spare rear wheel has indicated that my new (though bought in 2015) spikey tyres will fit (they're 38mm, a decision made through a combination of the cheapness of that size versus the relative scarcity of 700*30mm without ordering from Germany and the additional problem of the greater pressure required of narrower tyres being beyond what the 30mm seemed able to cope with, resulting in the stud-holes turning into actual holes once the studs had worked their way through the back or out of the front) the additional faff of having to shift the mudgards outwards makes it more than an evening's work, so the actual spike-emplacement will either wait until the weekend or beyond, if it unfreezes.
