100 years of Samba
We are celebrating today 100 years of "samba", probably the most popular rhythm of our rich musical culture. "Pelo Telephone" (By Phone) was the first music registered exactly 100 years ago, at The National Library, in Rio, and considered as a samba. This is the cover of the score. I was reading that the original lyrics were compromising for the police chief of Rio, so in the first recording came out "chief of the party" instead of "chief of the police". One hundred years ago, the musician Donga registered in the National Library as if it was his alone, but in fact a samba band composed together at Aunt Ciata's house. Here is an address in youtube with Martinho da Villa performing it, https://youtu.be/yeB9oBsFLrU
