The twisted pine and the ibex
A brilliant moment captured when I unexpectedly looked up and saw this ibex not far away. (Follow the line of the fallen tree to find the ibex). Then I saw the old tree which told a story all of its own.
An early start to drop M off for the 2nd day of his weekend ski-touring course, meant that P and I got to explore some new trails.
Was it the sleepiness or is it her age, her nose works fine, but she is getting more disoriented and distracted, struggling to see and hear sometimes. It turned out that way this morning when, having wandered off for some great smells, then realising she was "lost", she bounded off in the wrong direction, neither hearing the first calls of "Piper, come here" nor the last ones of "No, no, no!". It was too late, as she bounded toward me she saw the cattle grid and instantly decided to make a leap for it. Aged 15, there's no limit to her sense of possibility (or stupidity). She landed in the middle with all four legs in the gaps between the grids. Ouch!
I feared the worst, broken leg, a few cracked ribs, some blood. She didn't even wince. I lifted her up, put her back on her feet and she carried on as if nothing had happened. One lucky dog!
M came back safely too!
