Serving 'Vole Under Glass'
Yes, the vole hunting season goes on!
Although I try to be vigilant about keeping the garage door closed so no cat can get through the cat flap into the house, Persey surprised me when he found one of his live toys, a vole snuggled in the corner behind the toilet. With pride he pranced out into the hallway carrying his trophy.
It was rather shocked and slow enough that I could place a tall glass vase over it, take a quick blip, slip a thin sheet of cardboard between vole and floor, and take the creature outdoors.
Vole hunting and capture-- that' how it is done at our house. Somehow I do not have the same hysterical reaction as with rats or other rodents.
Now that the snow is melting we have ideal conditions for voles: wet and warm (29ºF this morning or -1.4ºC)
We have no State hunting limit on voles or other rodents as with deer.
I think deer hunting season with guns is over this week. Bow and arrows only...
