And The Cupboard Was Bare

Spring tides this weekend in Anglesey means that the low tides were very low and high tides very high. This is generally good for hunter-gathering shell-fish etc, and for fishing respectively. Only problem was we were late arriving today, and also have to head back for work lunchtime tomorrow. This effectively gave me just two low tides to work with (circa 18:40 today and/or 07:00 tomorrow), and only one high tide (13:00 tomorrow).

As I didn't fancy the early shift tomorrow morning Razor-Clamming on Red Wharf Bay, this is a photo of me tonight (and Blipped by J) shrimping in the Menai Straits in Beaumaris. You can see the backdrop of the Welsh mainland with Llandudno and Snowdonia in the distance. One and a half hours toil produced just 50 shrimps of medium size. I don't think I will be opening the seafood restaurant just yet on those quantities. The shrimps were fried in a little oil and tossed in the magic Maldivian mix of sea salt, black pepper and birds-eye chilli as described before. They were then added as a delicious crispy garnish to an exotic fish and tomato spaghetti (basically the only contents of the freezer and cupboard down here). A little bit odd and eclectic, but actually pretty delicious! It is amazing what fresh air and ozone can do to your appetite. The shrimps are so small, fresh and crispy that you can eat them whole.

J's boyfriend Jake of the Villa is arriving in Wales tomorrow via train from Birmingham. We are picking him up from Bangor station around 08:00 as he is taking advantage of some cheap fare. Me and MrsB will spend a little time with them, before leaving J and Jake to enjoy a few days holiday together. Busy week for me this week, so lucky for them I have to work in Knutsford! What Jake doesn't know yet is he is coming Mackerel fishing with me at lunchtime tomorrow before we head off - haha. Bit of male bonding and then check his intentions with my beautiful daughter.

Postscript: Easytide is my website and App of choice to predict tide times and heights all over UK.
