Normally I like Germany
... but there are some things about it that I don't like.
The picture above is a good example - unlike in the UK, in Germany tobacco products like cigarettes can be advertised to the general public (as well as bought from vending machines on the streets).
There are plenty of arguments from freedom and a person's 'right to choose' that are used to support the legal sale of a product with well-documented links to cancer and death, and no real benefits beyond nicotine relieving the stress one feels because of addiction to it. Even if you accept those arguments, the active marketing of cigarettes to people in order to influence them and to persuade them to smoke is still a repulsive practice.
The advert above can be roughly translated along the lines of:
"Normally, Monday is ladies night.
Everyone can be normal."
Now, I may be missing something and have the wording wrong, but I'm pretty sure I've got the gist of the ad - you can be normal, you can be having fun like these guys, if you smoke.
I'm not a fan.
