Blue Misty Pentland Hills

A fairly short, but long, ride down to the Scottish Borders. This photo was taken from the Fala Toll Road just after I passed into the region. Some parts of the ride involved navigating patches of hard packed snow. There were some icy puddles, but these were off the road.

There were quite a few patches of snow on the Eddleston to Lyne road as it passes through the Meldon Hills. Only one had to be crossed on the bike, the others had ruts I could cycle along. The A72 and B7059 were ice free, but banks of snow were still present.

The highest road is the Moor Road from West Linton to Penicuik. There is often quite a bit of snow at the high point, Deepsykehead. I was apprehensive as I climbed up from Whithead, but, thankfully, there was no snow this time.

It was a fast ride from there. A little caution required on the final descent where the hills and trees had sheltered the biggest patch of snow on the road. Penicuik was quite busy, but it was a fast ride from there, along the Seafield Moor Road to home. 77.2km in total.

A nice lunch of home made soup awaits.
