Emotions

Just sitting and smirking in the morning sun.

A few months ago, we bought Sebastien a book called The Color Monster, which covers the basic emotions (happy, sad, angry, scared, calm, and love) and equates them with colors. It also talks about the color monster jumbling them all up and how it's easier to understand them when they are separated.

Last night, when I was putting him to bed, Sebastien was upset because he wanted his dad to put him to bed. And as he was about to fall asleep, he started crying and had a little toddler fit. When I got him calmed down a little, he said he wanted to do the colors. It took me a few minutes to understand what he meant, but he wanted me to go through all the emotions and colors in the book. We discussed them and he decided that he had just had the blue emotion (sadness) and it had made him want to cry and be alone, and also the red emotion (anger) which had made him feel frustrated and want to yell. Then he said that he was now the green emotion (calmness), and that he felt peaceful and fine again.

I love that he has this much insight on his own emotions...and love that this book gave him the vocabulary he needed to talk about it.
