Glenrath

This is my old school mate and retired vet, Douglas, and I wrapped up for a visit to Glenrath Farms new liquid egg production facility.

John and Cathy Campbell arrived at Glenrath Farm in the Manor Valley in 1959 where they farmed Blackface sheep and a beef suckler cattle herd.      Cathy reared hens, gathered eggs and delivered the eggs door to door. The egg business expanded due to the demand for good quality locally produced eggs. Today they produce 1.4 million eggs a day and sell them to supermarkets all over the country.
Their new plant uses the 10% sub optimal eggs to produce pasteurised liquid eggs - which is sold by the pallet load and tanker load to manufacturing bakers.    They tell us that in the not too distant future supermarkets may not sell shelled eggs at all, and you'll get your egg in a packet or bottle.
