While they have preditors like lacewings and ladybugs, ants in the garden are the aphid's sworn protectors. Ants freed on the honeydew produced by the aphids. You (or we) could plants like garlic or onions, as the smell drives aphids away. I will just cut of the stem ... the seeds of the milkweed produced now lots of little plants...and so I just nurture those.
Also, hosing them down will help, but we just had a lot of rain, believe it or not. (When it rains in pours in California). Back to sunny weather.
