Moughton Scar
We began walking today from Horton in Ribblesdale and left Pen y gent behind us as we headed toward Ingleborough. Moughton Scar is at the head of Crummock Dale between these two peaks. Numerous Hawthorn trees had found niches in the crags out of reach of grazing sheep! There were some high and lengthy stone walls and we pondered on why they were built, so much labour and time involved to make them. It was fun jumping over the clints and grikes and observing the plants deep in the hollows, mainly harts tongue ferns at this time of year. it was dark when we got back, another lovely day in the Dales.
