Sun Worship
Janet soaks up the last of the November sunshine before heading off this evening for the crepuscular days of Sweden, to spend some time with Charlotte. Charlie's finishing up her studies in Uppsala and in the New Year will relocate to Montpelier to continue her MSc there.
I will remain, home alone and unsupervised... Anything can happen. Much that will happen will at least and at last be in focus, courtesy of a pair of new reading glasses. It's been frustrating recently, swapping between old specs trying to find something I can read text with.
Today is, I believe, the last day of my two month participation in Lancaster University's research into social media, ethics and privacy. As the Investigatory Powers Act completes it's passage through Parliament it's an appropriate time to reflect on the future of social media and indeed Internet use in Britain.
Along with the Digital Economy Bill, recently making news, and Hyperlink Jeopardy, the way we use the web is going to be changing drastically and, in my opinion, for the worse. Akin to moving from Freeview back to a handful of terrestrial channels, these three attacks on free expression and privacy are likely to whitelist much of the Internet.
There's a disturbance in the Force... Something wicked this way comes... Big Brother really is watching you.
