Third Sunday Soup
It was potluck night in the neighborhood, and here are some of the fixings. Next month we are going to try and roll out a block party!
This has been an effort of the last year and a half to try and tie the near neighborhood into a group of folks who can remember each others' names, what we do and where we came from. The hope is that we find the things we have in common and form friendships or at least alliances that will look out for each other. Mostly it has been a success, although it seems hard to convince people to make it a regular part of their social contacts.
We have family, church, work, school and even athletic connections, but for some reason, we do not seem to literally gravitate to the places we live. Although where we live is important and we buy houses based on whether it is in a "good" neighborhood; once there, many people seem to hunker down and keep to themselves. My hope is that we can actually become a community, but I am finding this requires ongoing commitment. Like all good things.
