The Great British Mud Off
A couple of the children at school had asked for a mud pie competition in a school council meeting. I think they expected me to say, "No!", but I thought it was an ace idea!!! I suggested 'The Great British Mud Off' and it went from there.... They designed a great poster that they put up around school and today was the day.
Loads of them took part and I was needed for judging (as Paul Hollymud with a colleague as Muddy Berry) after lunch. It was tough, there were plenty of soggy bottoms!
Had a great afternoon too, as it was time for one of my favourite lessons: a spaceship tour of the Solar System. We turn all the tables upside down to make a ship and go on an interactive jaunt to all the planets. The asteroid belt was fun when I threw 400 plastic balls on them, and as seems to the usual response year on year, I got them thrown straight back at me. One hit me in the throat and I went down, at which point one of my pupils attempted to give me CPR. One of those times that if Ofsted ever walked it on I would have trouble explaining it all away! On a similar note though, the head did walk in just as I said, "Right then, let's take a look at Uranus!" Perfect timing :)
"Bet you didn't know there are rings around Uranus"
"Uranus is quite bright and shiny"
"Uranus is gassy and really huge"
