Reproduction of the Ceiling in The Sistine Chapel
Its size is approximately two-thirds scale to the actual size and is the only known reproduction of the Sistine Chapel ceiling in the world and is in a church called The English Martyrs in Goring by Sea, West Sussex. Where I just happen to live.
In 1987 Gary Bevens went on a pilgrimage to Rome and was transfixed by the wonder of the Sistine Chapel. He returned home and received permission to reproduce the ceiling in this, his own parish church. He worked evening after evening for five and a half years and completed it in 1993. He then undertook painting the walls and decor, to create a magnificent marble effect.
As you can imagine the arch of the ceiling makes it hard to photograph. So apologies in advance. My extra is a description of each fresco.
