...Jezebel has a faux pas

Poor Jez. She mis-read the invitation and thought it said "costume" party. So, after spending the morning plucking all her head feathers, she thought for sure she'd win the contest for most creative costume. After all, how many blue vultures do you ever see? Now she is madder than hell, blaming all the other jays for setting her up to look like ... well, like a blue vulture!

Yes, it is the time of year when the adult blue jays molt and they are looking frightful. If you didn't know better, it would be easy to think they'd contracted some deadly disease ... but it is just Mother Nature with her whimsical sense of irony. The goldfinches are also starting their molt, although they are still looking quite nice.

In other backyard news, I saw a pair of wasps engaged in a paso doble...or maybe a waltz? I had a hummer giving me the eye while another one was doing the Happy Hummie Dance and yet another was telling tall tales. When you consume as much sugar water as these guys do, things can get a little out of control. Oh, who am I kidding? They can get a lot out of control!!

I told Mimsy the great news about her making the Spotlight page - she was more concerned by the fact that I was trying to pass off strawberries as an acceptable alternative to peanuts. In case you are curious, she shunned the strawberry and threatened a strike if peanuts weren't back on the menu and pronto!
